USAO Knocked Out of Nationals DECATUR, Ala. – The third straight trip to the NAIA National Softball Tournament came to an end late Saturday for the University of Science and Arts as No. 2 California Baptist homered twice in route to a 13-3 win in the final game of pool play. Still with a chance to advance into this week’s tournament play, USAO scored three runs on five hits in third inning to take a 3-1 lead over the Lancers. Nikki Aguilar, Courtney Foley and Morgan Thompson collected consecutive hits to start the inning. Thompson’s base hit scored Aguilar to tie the score at 1-1, and Stephanie Hey gave USAO the lead after driving in Foley on a sacrifice bunt. Amanda Cotton singled in Thompson with the Drovers’ next at bat for the third run of the inning. CBU answered in the bottom half of the inning with four runs highlighted by Geanie Jenkins’ three-run home run. The Lancers scored two more runs in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead before a five-run fifth inning and a game-ending home run by Tami Trujillo. USAO wrapped up the season with a final record of 43-22 and was ranked in the top 10 nationally in all but one week’s poll. ### |
