USAO Sweeps OBU

SHAWNEE – Flipping the switch to produce instant offense, the eighth-ranked University of Science and Arts outscored Oklahoma Baptist 11-0 in the final two innings of Friday’s doubleheader. USAO improved to 24-9 overall and 6-4 in the SAC by sweeping OBU 7-0 and 9-5.

Dana Askins shut out OBU allowing only two hits in the opener with OBU squandering its only opportunity in the fourth. Catherine Eimen singled, but was erased on a fielder’s choice ahead of a double by Jayme Boyer. But with runners on second and third with one out, Askins fanned the next two OBU hitters.

All seven of USAO's runs were unearned, scoring twice in the fourth and five in the seventh, including a grand slam by Stephanie Hey.

The Lady Bison jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game after the first two hitters were retired.

USAO tied the game in the third on a three-run double by Morgan Skelley scoring Askins and Courtney Foley.

The Lady Bison retook the lead in the fourth on RBI singles by Burton and Stevens.

Then USAO turned on the offense in the late innings.

USAO scored five in the sixth on an RBI double by Askins, an RBI single by Jessica Darling and a three-run home run - her first of the season - by Nikki Aguilar.

The Drovers added a run in the seventh on OBU's fourth error of the game. Askins (16-6) got the win in relief.

USAO will travel to Alva on Tuesday to Face Northwestern Oklahoma, which received votes in Wednesday’s top-25 national poll.
