Basketball Teams Set Scrimmage Schedules

With a little less than a month until the season begins, the USAO men’s and women’s basketball teams have scheduled nine scrimmages. The Drover women account for five of the scrimmages, while the men will play four.

The USAO women host four of their five scrimmages, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 12 against Northern Oklahoma College in Enid. Other dates include Oct. 19 vs. Redlands, 4:30 p.m.; Oct. 22 vs. Cowley County, Kan., Community College, 4:30 p.m.; Oct. 26 at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa; and Oct. 30 vs. Northeastern State, 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, the first of the Drover men’s four scrimmages is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 14 against Clarendon, Texas, Community College. USAO’s other three dates are Oct. 23 at Rose State College in Midwest City, 10 a.m.; Oct. 28 vs. Cowley County, Kan., Community College; and, Oct. 30 at Carl Albert State College in Poteau, 1 p.m.

The annual Drover Madness is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 inside the USAO Fieldhouse.

USAO begins the regular season in the first week of November. The Drover women kick things off at 6 p.m. Nov. 3 when they host Langston, and compete Nov. 5-6 in a tournament at Southern Nazarene. The men open their season at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at East Central in Ada, and travel to Stillwater Nov. 9 for an exhibition game at Oklahoma State.

The Drovers’ other non-conference homes are on Nov. 11, when the women host Texas Wesleyan at 6 p.m. and the men take on Central Oklahoma at 8 p.m. On Nov. 22, the men are scheduled to host Southwestern Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m.

USAO opens the Sooner Athletic Conference season with three straight home doubleheaders, beginning Jan. 6 against Lubbock Christian. The Drovers also take on Wayland Baptist on Jan. 8 and Northwestern on Jan. 10 in the home stand. They follow with four of the next five on the road.
