Basketball Women Get 4
on All-SAC List
Three USAO women’s basketball players earned
All-Sooner Athletic Conference honors for their efforts on the court. A
fourth player was honored for her accomplishments in the classroom.
USAO junior Katie Sterling was named
third-team All-SAC by the coaches, while seniors Secrett Stubblefield and
Karole Robers earned honorable mention honors. Junior Nicole Sherman named
to the All-Conference academic team.
Sterling, a 5-foot-6 guard from New Orleans,
led the Drovers in scoring for much of the season, averaging 14.9 points
per game. She led the team in steals at 2.6 per game, and was fourth in
rebounding at 4.1 boards per contest.
Stubblefield, a 5-6 guard from Chicago,
averaged 15.5 points per game after joining team for the conference
season. She was third on the team with three assists per game, and
averaged four rebounds per game. Roberts, a 6-0 forward from Dallas, was
second on the team at 5.4 rebounds per game, and four in scoring at 9.6
points per game.
Sherman, a 6-0 forward from Tulsa, finished
with a 3.64 grade-point average as an economics major to earn a spot on
the All-SAC academic team. On the court, Sherman led the Drovers in
rebounding at 5.8 boards per game. She was ranked ninth in the SAC in
rebounding, while averaging 3.2 points per contest.
Oklahoma City University's Sadio Sangare, a
6-2 junior from Mali, West Africa, has been named SAC Basketball Player of
the Year. Sangare led the Stars to the SAC regular season championship,
averaging 21.9 points and 8.3 rebounds. Janell Jones of OCU earned Coach
of the Year honors after guiding the Stars through their title run.
Mariam Sy of OCU and Rachel Martin of Oklahoma
Christian shared Newcomer of the Year honors. OCU's Natasha Doh won
Freshman of the Year honors. Christie Rush of Southern Nazarene was named
Defensive Player of the Year. Alicia Baer of John Brown, Danya Neugent of
St. Gregory's and Lauren Decker of Oklahoma Christian shared the SAC
Sportsmanship Award.
