USAO
Schedules Basketball Game at OSU
Given a “huge” opportunity, the USAO men’s
basketball team has scheduled an exhibition game against Oklahoma State
University in Stillwater, head coach Brisco McPherson announced this week.
The Drovers are set to face the Cowboys at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 inside Gallagher-Iba
Arena on the OSU campus.
Ticket prices for the game have not been set, and will be
available two days before the contest. They can be purchased through the
OSU Ticket Office at (877) ALL-4-OSU or at www.okstate.com.
This is the first time USAO has faced an NCAA Division I opponent, and is
OSU’s first scrimmage of the season. The contest will not count toward
either team’s regular season record or individual statistics.
“This is a huge opportunity for our team and
university,” said McPherson. “It is a win-win situation for us. I
really can’t describe how great a situation this is. It’s something
these guys will remember for the rest of their lives.”
Many experts predict that Oklahoma State will be ranked in
the top 5 of nearly every preseason basketball poll. The Cowboys return
several key starters, and are led by coach Eddie Sutton who is regarded as
one of the best coaches in history.
“I don’t think we can compete athletically with OSU,
but we’re going to compete as hard as we can,” McPherson said. “They
are a good team with a Hall of Fame coach. OSU has a legitimate chance to
win the national championship this season. I hope our guys can learn from
this experience and remember it forever.”
USAO’s exhibition game at OSU follows the Drovers’
season opener Nov. 8 at East Central University in Ada. Their first home
game is scheduled for 8 p.m. Nov. 11 against Central Oklahoma. The
Drovers’ only other non-conference home game is Nov. 22 against
Southwestern Okla. State. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. inside USAO
Fieldhouse.
