Beaty Named First-Team All-America

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Just because the season is over doesn’t mean that the University of Science and Arts’ softball team is done collecting accolades. Senior shortstop Leslie Beaty became the first player in four seasons to be named First Team All-America Thursday following the national tournament.In addition to Beaty’s first team selection, six other Drovers were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Under head coach Taralee Pringle, USAO have had 14 all-conference players and 11 scholar-athletes. Beaty, from Washington, took a season-record .452 batting average into the conference tournament, but she finished the season with a .438 average with 14 doubles, 45 RBIs and a school-record nine home runs. Her average ranks second all-time for a season, and her .395 career average ranks second as well. She finished her three-year Drover career as the school’s all-time home run leader with 20, and she ranks second all-time in career hits, runs scored, doubles and RBIs. Beaty posted 22 multiple-hit games in her final season and hitting streaks of 13 and 10 games. Kim Alford, Caitlyn Crotty, Kristi Stout, Michelle Bauer and Hillary Brown were all named to NAIA Scholar-Athletes. The Drovers finished the season 23-24 overall with the second-best team batting average in school history (.310). The 2009 team also ranks first with 31 home runs, fourth in runs scored, fifth in doubles and RBIs. ###
