Soccer Women Prevail in OT; Men Beat Friends Easily

In their second doubleheader this week, the USAO soccer teams swept another over Friends, Kan., University Saturday at Drover Field. The Drover women prevailed 2-1 in overtime, while the men won easily, 3-0.

 The women improve to 4-1-1 overall, and the men improve to 3-2-1. On Tuesday, USAO travels to Lindsborg, Kan., for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Bethany College. This weekend, the Drovers host the 2004 USAO Soccer Classic. USAO takes on College of the Southwest at 2 p.m. Friday, and Texas Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Saturday.

 In the women’s game Saturday, senior Laura Parker netted the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 96th minute for the 2-1 overtime win. It was the Drovers’ second overtime game this season.

 Junior Samantha Pecore got USAO on the board first in the 38th minute on a left-footed shot. Sophomore Jessie Brown had her shot blocked, but Pecore was right there to put it in the back of the net. Friends evened things up at 1-1 in the 68th minute on a header by Anna Lutke off free kick by Chasney Betts.

 Junior goalkeeper Katy Newville finished with four saves and allowed one goal in her fourth win of the season. The Falcons’ goalkeeper Mary Dix allowed a goal and collected three saves in the first half. Dana Neuse replaced Dix in the second, allowing a goal and corralling six saves.

 In the men’s game, USAO scored twice in the first half and once in the second for the 3-0 win and second straight shutout. Sophomore Eric Ramos scored his first goal of the season in the 30th minute on a header off a throw-in by senior Marcus Williams.

 Senior Nene Coulibally got on the board in the 38th minute off a cross pass from sophomore Adam Day. Sophomore Jonathan Oman netted the first goal of his USAO career in the 56th minute on a header off a free kick by Day.

 Junior goalkeeper Elliott Ballmann finished with four saves in his third shutout of the season, increasing his career school-record to nine. Friends’ goalkeeper Justin James collected eight saves and allowed three goals.
