Askins Named SAC Pitcher of the Year

For the second straight season, multiple USAO softball players were named to the All-Sooner Athletic Conference teams. Dana Askins was named the SAC Pitcher of the Year, and Kindra Gregory also was named to the first team. Crystal Judkins, Morgan Skelley and Stephanie Hey were named to the second team.

Askins, a junior pitcher from Moore, boasted a league-best 0.78 earned-run average (ERA) and 205 strikeouts. The left-hander posted a 23-9 record, including 31 starts, 29 complete games, and 12 shutouts. As a hitter, Askins finished second in the SAC with a .423 batting average, including 16 doubles, seven triples, three home runs, and 30 RBIs.

Gregory, a junior pitcher from Lexington, was named first-team All-SAC, and finished third in the conference with a 1.48 ERA and 144 strikeouts. The right-hander boasts a 23-8 record, including 32 starts, 23 complete games, and 11 shutouts. Gregory finished with a .330 batting average, along with seven doubles and a home run. 

Judkins, a senior second baseman from Fort Worth, finished second on the team with a .357 batting average, and was one of two Drovers to start all 63 games. Skelley, a sophomore catcher from Rocky, finished third on the team with a .350 batting average, including 16 doubles and a team-high five home runs. Hey, a junior catcher-third baseman from Oklahoma City, was fourth on the team with a .300 batting average, along with nine doubles and two home runs.

Oklahoma City University catcher Cat Calvert was named SAC Player of the Year, and Phil McSpadden, coach of the regular season champion Stars, was tabbed Coach of the Year. The first-team pitchers include Askins, USAO's Kindra Gregory, and Oklahoma Baptist's Amanda Zahara.

First-team catchers are Calvert, Angie Plowman of OC, Summer Ledbetter of St. Gregory's and Danielle Barrilleaux of Southern Nazarene. Infielders on the first team are Lelys Gomez of OCU and Katy Thurber of OBU. First-team utility players are Jill Vaughn of OCU, Jessie Munson of St. Gregory's and Lacey Owens of St. Gregory's.

First Team outfielders are Sheena Harrison of St. Gregory's, Allison Ramzy of OBU, Emily Jones of SNU, Shawna Lenz of OC and Natalie Hamby of Northwestern. Lindsey Lawson of OC was named first-team designated player. A complete All-Conference list is available on the SAC Web
