Team Gets Top Seed in SAC Tourney
After sweeping St. Gregory’s last weekend to end the
regular season, the USAO softball team finished second in the Sooner
Athletic Conference standings. The No. 9 Drovers, however, will be the top
seed in the SAC tournament this weekend in Alva.
USAO finished the regular season at 41-15 overall and 17-5
in the SAC. Oklahoma City (44-12) captured the SAC regular season title at
20-2, and received an automatic berth in the Region VI tournament in
Farmers Branch, Texas. Oklahoma Baptist (25-22, 9-15) and Southern
Nazarene (12-40, 1-23) failed to qualify for the four-team tournament.
The Drovers are scheduled to face No. 4 seed Oklahoma
Christian (21-25, 11-13) at 1 p.m. Thursday at Alva Recreational Complex.
No. 2 St. Gregory’s (34-21, 13-11) and No. 3 Northwestern (29-25, 11-13)
face off in the other 1 p.m. game Thursday.
The USAO-OC and SGU-NWOSU winners face off in Game 3 at 3
p.m. Thursday, while the losers try to stave off elimination at 3 p.m. in
Game 4. The Game 4 winner is
scheduled to face the Game 3 loser at 7 p.m. Thursday. The championship
game is set for 1 p.m. Friday with the “if necessary” game at 3 p.m.
SAC tournament champion will receive a bid to the Region
VI tournament, as will two other SAC teams. Rounding out the six-team
regional tournament will be two teams from the Red River Athletic
Conference.
