USAO
Seeded 3rd in Regional Softball Tourney
Coming off a second-place finish in the conference
tournament, the USAO softball team travels to Farmers Branch, Texas, to
compete in the NAIA Region VI tournament on Thursday and Friday at Oran
Good Park.
The Drovers are the No. 3 seed in the six-team event, and
face No. 6 St. Gregory’s at 10 a.m. Thursday. With a win, USAO would
move on to face No. 2 Oklahoma City at noon. The other 10 a.m. game
Thursday matches No. 4 Bacone and No. 5 Oklahoma Christian, with the
winner to face No. 1 Houston Baptist at noon.
Four of the six teams in the regional tournament were
ranked in the top 15 of the most recent NAIA softball poll. Houston
Baptist came in at No. 2 with two first-place votes, and Oklahoma City was
tabbed at No. 7 in the poll. USAO came in at No. 9, followed by No. 13
Bacone. Neither St. Gregory’s nor Oklahoma Christian are ranked in the
poll.
The tournament championship game is set for 2 p.m. Friday,
followed by the “if necessary” game at 4 p.m. A complete bracket is
