USAO’s Win Streak Stopped

CHICKASHA – Thanks in large part to the lowest shooting percentage of the season (29.7 percent), the University of Science and Arts suffered its first loss of the season Monday night at home to Langston 72-61.

Sha’Donna Stewart and reigning Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week Nikki Yager were the only USAO players to hit anywhere near 50 percent from the floor. Stewart knocked down 6-of-12 shots including four 3-pointers for a 22-point night. Yager hit 3-of-5 from the field for six points. The rest of the team combined for 10-of-47 shooting (21.3 percent).

Langston’s work on the boards paid off as well as the Lady Lions, 4-3 overall, out-rebounded the Drovers 50-38 and outscored USAO 14-7 in second chance points. Power forward Jenissa Harris scored 19 points to help the visitors to a 42-24 advantage in the paint.

USAO (5-1) travels to the Sleep Inn Thanksgiving Classic this weekend hosted by Oklahoma Christian University. The Drovers take on the University of Mobile at 6 p.m. Friday and Mid-America Christian University at 1 p.m. Saturday.
