Second Half Push Powers Drover Win
CHICKASHA – After a sluggish start, the Drovers fired
on all cylinders in the second half blowing out Texas Wesleyan 70-43
Saturday afternoon inside the USAO Fieldhouse.
Other than two consecutive USAO buckets in the final 20
seconds of the first half, the game looked like it would come down to
which team would miss the least amount of shots. Both teams went
scoreless through the final 1:40 seconds until Je’antel Haynes and
Sasha Ferguson scored late to give USAO a 26-17 halftime lead.
The Drovers only managed to hit 34.5 percent of their
shots (10-for-29) in the first half while TWU struggled to find the
range, too, hitting only 26.7 percent (8-for-30).
Shots started falling in the second half as USAO
started on an 8-2 run. By the midway point of the second half, the
Drovers had outscored TWU 24-6.
While the Drovers improved dramatically in the second
half by hitting seven more field goals and four more 3-pointers than
they did in the first half, TWU shot the ball more and more off
target. USAO held the Lady Rams to only 9-of-40 from the floor.
Nikki Yager led the Drovers with a game-high 14 points
on 4-of-4 shooting. Kartesha Rambo posted 11 points while Ferguson
ended with 10 points. USAO improved to 7-2 overall heading into the
Sooner Athletic Conference season at 3 p.m. Saturday against
Northwestern Oklahoma.
