Women Continue Winning Streak

CHICKASHA – Nikki Yager and Sha’Donna Stewart led the Drovers with 12 points apiece, and Lamitra Daggs added 10 more as the University of Science and Arts held off a pesky Northwestern Oklahoma team 60-58 Saturday afternoon inside the USAO Fieldhouse.

USAO (8-2, 1-0) withstood a 15-point, 10-rebound game from NWOSU All-American center Brittany McBride by running. The Drovers turned NWOSU’s missed shots into buckets and by game’s end held a 25-2 edge in fast break points.

After jumping out to a 9-0 lead and a 12-point advantage with 12:09 remaining the first half, NWOSU rallied behind substitutes Hailey Blagg, Danielle Stebens and Emily Gilbert. Each Lady Ranger finished with eight points as NWOSU’s bench outscored USAO’s bench 26-15.

In the end, it was the Drover defense that stood tall holding the Lady Rangers without a field goal during the final 2:14 of the game.

After the conference win Saturday, the women will have a few weeks off before traveling to Tabor College on Dec. 29 for a 3 p.m. tip. Sooner Athletic Conference play continues at home on Jan. 4 and Jan. 6 at 6 p.m.
