USAO Upsets No. 17 OC

CHICKASHA – Led by 15 points from Nikki Yager and 14 points and six assists from Sha’Donna Stewart the University of Science and Arts shocked the league Thursday night with a 71-64 win over league-leading and 17th-ranked Oklahoma Christian inside USAO Fieldhouse.

USAO and OC entered the game heading in completely different directions. The Drovers had lost three of its last four games while the Eagles had won its last five including two over ranked opponents. But OC’s defense, ranked sixth nationally in points allowed, had no answer as the Drovers put the visitors away with an 18-8 run over the final six minutes of the game.

Lindsey Monroe, Sasha Ferguson and Je’antel Haynes all scored in double figures to lead USAO to a 10-6 record overall and 3-3 record in Sooner Athletic Conference play. With the win, the Drovers moved into a tie for fourth place in the league with their next opponent – Oklahoma City. The teams meet Saturday night at OCU’s Abe Lemons Arena.

OC fell to 10-3 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. With the loss, the Eagles are now in a tie for second place with Southern Nazarene.
