Lead Gets Away from Women
OKLAHOMA CITY – With 10:06 remaining, the University of Science and
Arts’ women were cruising toward an upset win over No. 15 Oklahoma
Christian Thursday night. But the OC women took control with a 23-10
run to end the game and handed the Drovers an 83-68 road loss.
Led
by 13 points from Nikki Yager, USAO looked poised for a season sweep
of OC after a 71-67 win at home earlier in the season. Three
3-pointers from Lindsey Monroe helped the Drovers erase an early
deficit and weather a near perfect storm of shooting from OC from
3-point-land. Down only three points at halftime, USAO eventually took
the lead and pushed it to six points with 10 minutes remaining.
Down
the stretch, though, OC turned to post player Charlotte Heron. Heron
scored eight points in the second half, but more importantly, she
opened OC shooters Rachel Martin and Mackenzie Walker for open looks.
Martin finished with 31 points and a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the
arc. Walker scored 15 points on five 3-pointers including a couple of
late daggers.
Monroe finished with 12 points while Lamitra Daggs and Kartesha Rambo
posted 10 points each. Sasha Ferguson and Sha’Donna Stewart scored
eight points each.
The
USAO women fell to 13-10 overall and 6-7 in the league with Oklahoma
City (19-5, 8-5) visiting the USAO Fieldhouse Saturday night beginning
at 6 p.m.
