Drovers Split Weekend Games
WINFIELD, Kan. – Led by a season-high 23 points from Kartesha Rambo and a fourth straight double-figure scoring game from Charite Lewis, the University of Science and Arts split the weekend’s games at Southwestern College. The Drovers dropped below .500 with an 81-66 loss to Friends University on Friday but rebounded with a 75-67 win over host team Southwestern Saturday.
As poor of a shooting night as USAO had in Friday’s loss to Friends, the team turned it around in Saturday’s win. Rambo poured in a season-high four 3-pointers, and all nine Drovers scored in Saturday’s win over Southwestern. Lewis, a sophomore forward from Cushing, posted her second career double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. It’s no surprise that USAO is 2-0 this season when Lewis scores 10 points and grabs 10 rebounds.
Juliana Leite posted a career-high 10 points against Southwestern including converting on 2-of-3 from behind the 3-point line.
Friday’s loss to Friends can be summarized by the difference in team shooting percentages. USAO was just 3-of-15 from 3-point land and finished by hitting only 37.5 percent as a team. Friends, on the other hand, hit well over 40 percent from the floor, had more assists and fewer turnovers.
Lewis posted 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Drovers. Je’antel Haynes added 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists, and Sasha Ferguson scored 11 points.
The Drovers, 2-2 overall, return home for a 6 p.m. tipoff against Tabor College on Tuesday.
