Women Drop SAC Opener

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. ­ Four Drovers scored in double figures including a 20-point night from Stephanie Russell, but John Brown managed to hold its 10-point halftime lead throughout the second half for a 73-63 win
Thursday night.
 
The loss drops the University of Science and Arts to 7-3 on the season and 0-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The team looks to rebound with a three-game home stand Saturday against Southern Nazarene. Tipoff is
scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
In Thursday nightıs game, USAO outscored JBU 17-6 in the final five minutes. But the rally wasnıt enough to overcome JBU shooting 55 percent from the floor in the second half.
 
Russell, a senior from Tulsa, was on fire shooting 50 percent from the field including five three-pointers. Conversely, Katie Sterling scored 14 points despite a difficult night shooting. Averaging 43 percent from the floor for the season, the senior only connected on 5-of-20 shots in the game.
 
Junior Lindsey Monroe had a good night scoring 13 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. The Amber-Pocasset product is averaging 10.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
 
Junior Nikki Yager also scored in double figures scoring 10 points. She added three rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots in almost 30 minutes of action.
 
After missing a Dec. 30 matchup against Tabor College, Elaine Contreras was back in action Thursday night dishing out four assists.
