Women Rolling with
Third Straight Win
CHICKASHA –
Collecting its first win of the year over a ranked team, the
University of Science and Arts stunned No. 22 Lubbock Christian 70-59
Saturday afternoon inside the USAO Fieldhouse.
Winning its
third straight, USAO improves to 12-8 on the season and 5-6 in the
Sooner Athletic Conference with No. 24 Oklahoma Baptist coming to town
Thursday for a 6 p.m. game. Even with a win over OBU, USAO would still
trail in the SAC standings. But a season split could be important down
the stretch since OBU won the first matchup.
Saturday, USAO
dominated the Lady Chaps (14-8, 8-4) holding them to only 19 percent
shooting and four field goals well into the final stages of the first
half.
Ahead by 19
points early in the second half, LCU learned why Katie Sterling is one
of the most valuable players in the league and the Drovers shouldn’t
be taken lightly.
The senior from
New Orleans poured in 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting and added five
rebounds, four steals and seven assists in 32 minutes of play. Junior
Lindsey Monroe hit two three pointers to finish with 15 points, 10
rebounds and three blocked shots.
Christina
Brown’s three three-pointes helped USAO establish its largest lead of
the game as she finished with 13 points and four rebounds.
