Winning Streak
Snapped
ALVA –
Continuing a torrid pace of 20-point games, Katie Sterling torched
Northwestern Oklahoma for 22 points Tuesday night, but her effort
wasn’t enough as the University of Science and Arts fell on the road
51-67.
USAO’s
five-game winning streak came to an end as well despite Sterling
reaching the 20-point mark for the fourth straight game. Her 22 points
only managed to tie for game-high honors as NWOSU’s Brittany McBride
went 10-for-14 from the free-throw line as part of her 22.
The only other
Drover to score in double figures was Christina Brown, who hit three
three-pointers on her way to 11 points. USAO only shot 28 percent from
the field for the game and only managed two free throws through the
first 6:37 of the game falling behind 12-2.
Brown and
Elaine Contreres each hit three-pointers as the Drovers cut the early
10-point deficit to five with 9:47 left in the half, but NWOSU scored
the next five points and finished the half on a 13-6 run to take a
36-21 halftime lead.
Sterling scored
seven of USAO’s 13 points to start the second half as the team, again,
cut the deficit to 54-45 with 3:17 left. Brown added her third
three-pointer with 1:31 left, and it looked like the Drovers might
make a late run. NWOSU, though, scored the final eight points to
finish with the 67-51 win.
USAO fell to
14-9 overall and 7-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The team
travels to No. 3 Oklahoma City on Thursday before returning to the
USAO Fieldhouse on Saturday for the home finale against Oklahoma
Christian.
