OC Downs Drovers
OKLAHOMA CITY –
Katie Sterling broke the 20-point barrier for the first time since
November; Stephanie Russell posted 15 points as well, but their
efforts weren’t enough to match No. 12 Oklahoma Christian Saturday
night.
The University
of Science and Arts dropped its second straight game to a ranked
opponent, 71-55, to fall to 9-5 on the season and 2-3 in the Sooner
Athletic Conference. The Drovers will travel to Shawnee on Thursday to
face St. Gregory’s (7-10, 1-4).
Sterling’s
7-for-21 shooting performance included three three-pointers, four
rebounds and four steals as the senior played over 35 minutes. Russell
got off to a great start hitting two of her three threes in the first
five minutes to give the Drovers an early 8-6 lead.
Battling
through a first-half stretch in which the team turned the ball over on
five straight possessions, USAO found themselves down by only nine
points at halftime, 37-28.
The Drovers put
a quick run together to start the second half, but couldn’t sustain
the momentum against OC’s precision offense and great offensive
rebounding. OC controlled the boards by out-rebounding USAO 49-37 and
grabbed 19 offensive boards.
