Lead, Fall on the Road
SHAWNEE – Led by Lindsey Monroe’s 21 points and seven rebounds, the
University of Science and Arts jumped out to a quick lead. But St.
Gregory’s countered with three players scoring in double figures as
they rallied to win 53-46 Thursday night.
The loss drops USAO to 9-6 overall and 2-4 in the Sooner Athletic
Conference. SGU, which shot 18 more free throws and converted 10 more
than USAO, moves to 8-10 and 2-4.
Monroe led the way for the Drovers by hitting 9-of-16 from the floor
including three three-pointers. Season scoring leader Katie Sterling
hit three threes as well to finish with 13 points, three rebounds and
three assists.
As a team, USAO only hit 28.1 percent from the floor and 22.9 percent
from three. The team did keep up its impeccable free throw percentage
by hitting 6-of-8 for 75 percent. SGU converted just 34.7 percent from
the floor but hit 61.5 percent from the free-throw line going
16-of-26.
The Drovers are back in action on Saturday at Oklahoma Baptist
beginning at noon. The team returns home on Thursday for a 6 p.m. tip
against John Brown.
