Drovers Dominate St.
Gregory’s, Win Fifth Straight
CHICKASHA – Led
by Katie Sterling’s 22 points, the University of Science and Arts
strolled to its fifth straight win, 70-49, Saturday over St. Gregory’s
inside the USAO Fieldhouse.
Sterling, the
conference’s second-leading scorer, set the tone early by hitting a
three-pointer for USAO’s first points. Stephanie Russell hit three
first-half threes to help the Drovers jump out to a 16-point lead. SGU
put up a mini rally, though, finishing the first half on an 8-1 run to
make the score 33-24 at halftime.
USAO lost its
first game against SGU on Jan. 19 despite being up by nine at
halftime, but Sterling wouldn’t let the same thing happen as the
Drovers roll toward the conference tournament. The senior scored USAO
first seven points of the second half as the Drover lead ballooned to
23 points.
Russell
finished the game with 14 points including four three-pointers and
eight rebounds. Lindsey Monroe, who hit the game winning three-pointer
Thursday night against OBU, finished with 13 points on 5-of-11
shooting.
USAO improved
to 14-8 overall and 7-6 in the conference. The team must make the trip
to Alva Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game against Northwestern Oklahoma. The
Drovers will play host to Oklahoma Christian for the home finale
beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday.
