Women Extend Win Streak to Four
Games
FORT WORTH, Texas – Three players combined for
47 points as the University of Science and Arts topped Texas Wesleyan
Friday night 72-61 at the Sid Richardson Center.
Stephanie Russell returned to action and led
all scorers with 19 points. Nikki Yager and Katie Sterling scored 15
and 13 points, respectively, to improve USAO’s record to 4-0 on the
season. Russell, who hasn’t played since suffering a concussion in the
season opener against Bethany College, hit five-of-nine from the field
including two-of-three from three-point land.
In the first
half USAO jumped out to a commanding 26-13 lead, but TWU stayed in the
game with a 17-4 run that tied the game at 30-30. Yager scored in the
closing seconds of the first half to give the Drovers a 37-34 lead at
the break.
TWU again tied the game with 12:03 left in the
second half, but Christina Brown answered with a quick three-pointer
to retake the lead. The Drovers hit all six of their free throws in
the final two minutes and pulled away late.
The Drovers return to action on Monday
traveling to Langston for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
