Drovers Shutout JBU in Finale

CHICKASHA – Led by Wesley Costa’s two goals, the University of Science and Arts exploded for six goals to beat John Brown 6-0 Tuesday at Drover Field in the team’s regular season home finale. The USAO women fell 4-0 to JBU, which is undefeated and on top of the conference standings.

Five different players scored as USAO posted its second highest goal total of the season improving to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The conference standings have turned out to be a bit interesting as USAO finds itself tied with Oklahoma City and Oklahoma Baptist. The Drovers control their own destiny for a home playoff game with two games remaining  -- at OBU Friday and at OCU Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game started with a bang as Nikola Cakarevic scored his first goal of the season on a bending corner kick in the 9th minute. Cakarevic, a freshman from Serbia, added to his team-leading six assists in the 19th minute as his pass led to a Duson Rasovic goal and a 2-0 Drover lead.

USAO kept up the pressure as Costa scored back-to-back goals in the 36th and the 67th minute, and Terry Adamson and James Cottage scored in the 78th and 79th minute to round out the scoring. Rasovic posted his first assist of the season with Costa’s second goal of the day and sixth goal of the season, and Pinny Nijjar collected his third assist of the season when Adamson netted his fifth goal this season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ricardo Moreira picked up his third shutout of the season as the Drovers take a two-game winning streak into the final two games of the season and the conference tournament. If USAO can hold onto its fourth place position, the team will host the first round of the conference tournament versus the No. 5 seed scheduled for Nov. 1-3.
