Winning Streak Ends at OC

OKLAHOMA CITY – A three-game unbeaten streak came to an end Tuesday night as Oklahoma Christian held off the Drover men for a 1-0 win, and OC posted a 7-1 win over the Drover women. The University of Science and Arts’ women fell to 2-3 in the conference and 5-5-1 overall while the men fell to 1-3 in the conference and 5-6 overall.

In an evenly matched men’s game, OC broke the scoreless tie in the 70th minute when Cristian Fernandes headed in a rebound of Adam Barnes’ shot off the crossbar for the winning goal.

In the women’s game, OC scored early and often as the Lady Eagles picked up its first win in five games. Amy Renault, who is more famous for leading the softball team to a come-from-behind win over Oklahoma Baptist last spring with a double, a home run and four RBIs, scored her first collegiate goal in the 41st minute. Assisted by Brittany Jay, Renault’s goal cut the OC lead to 2-1.

USAO battled to a 2-1 halftime score, but OC scored three goals in six minutes in the second half to break the game open.

The men return to Drover Field Friday to take on Bethel, Tenn., beginning at 1 p.m. The women are on the road at Northwestern Oklahoma beginning at 3 p.m. Friday. Both teams are home for the regular season finale Oct. 16 against John Brown.
