Drovers Split Versus OBU

CHICKASHA - The Drovers dominated offensively the entire afternoon, but the University of Science and Arts only managed to split Tuesday’s home doubleheader against Sooner Athletic Conference rival Oklahoma Baptist.

The women held off a second-half rally for a 3-2 win improving to 1-1 in SAC play and 7-4-1 overall. The men rallied to force overtime but pounded shot attempts off the cross bar once too often as the 10th team in the country escaped with an 2-1 overtime win.

The women’s Tiffany Treadwell scored the first goal of the game on an assist from Tara Wallace midway through the first half. The goal gave USAO a commanding lead in what seemed to be a defensive struggle. In the second half, though, the game turned into an offensive show.

OBU’s Katya Arruda tied the score just 38 seconds into the second half. Just 52 seconds later, USAO’s Samantha Pecore answered to give the Drovers a 2-1 lead. Arruda tied the score again four minutes later, but Haley Critchfield’s goal just minutes after that gave USAO the last word – and a 3-2 win.

The USAO men let three open net opportunities get away – including two shots off the cross bar – in the team’s first home loss of the season. Adam Day scored his team-high 10th goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1 in the 76th minute, but OBU’s Nickson Odeny slipped a header in goal to win in the first overtime.

The men will play a make-up game at No. 4 Southern Nazarene at 5 p.m. Thursday. Both teams will travel to Siloam Springs, Ark., to face John Brown Oct. 11. The games begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
