Drovers Sweep Oklahoma ChristianCHICKASHA - Two penalty kicks were all the University of Science and Arts gave up in Tuesday’s sweep of Oklahoma Christian at Drover Field. The women (8-7-1, 2-3) snapped a three-game slide with a 2-1 win while the men (9-3-1, 2-2) blistered OC 4-1. The teams host Oklahoma City at 1 p.m. Friday in the home finale. With the win over the Sooner Athletic Conference’s top team, the women improved their chances at a higher seed in the conference tournament, which is scheduled for Oct. 28. Talita Guindani scored her third goal of the season unassisted to put the Drovers ahead 1-0 just five minutes into the game. A penalty kick by OC’s Kristin Brown tied the score at 1-1 in the 45th minute, but Chickasha’s Haley Critchfield broke the tie in the 50th minute scoring the game-winning goal – her fourth of the season. Rebounding from a 2-2 tie at Texas Wesleyan on Saturday, the men’s 4-1 pasting of the Eagles will move the team into a third-place tie in the SAC with Friday’s opponent - OCU. The Stars handed USAO its only non-conference loss on Sept. 1, 3-1. Raphael Silvo had one of his best performances as a Drover. The freshman from Brazil scored the first goal of the day on an assist from Wesley Costa and assisted on the final two goals. The first was a redirected header to Bello Illiassou in the 61st minute, and the second led to Tom Hubbard’s seventh goal of the season in the 64th minute. Hubbard scored twice on the day. His first goal, in the 20th minute, came on an assist from Austin Bliss and Adam Day giving the Drovers a 2-0 lead. OC’s only shot on goal came on a successful penalty kick by Adam Barnes just 20 seconds before Illiassou’s header. -###- |
