Second Hat Trick in a Row Leads to USAO WinSHAWNEE –Adam Day’s second consecutive hat trick helped the men from the University of Science and Arts pound St. Gregory’s University 6-1 Tuesday. Day’s third hat trick of the season helped the team win its fourth conference game in a row while the USAO women battled SGU to a 0-0 tie through two overtimes. The men wrapped up the regular season 11-3-1 overall and 4-2-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. After Friday’s frantic, 3-2 come-from-behind win over Oklahoma City and the blowout of SGU, the team is alone in third place in the SAC standings. The playoffs begin this weekend with the men possibly hosting Oklahoma Christian Saturday. The women will most likely play their first round game at Oklahoma Baptist on Friday. Sophomore Jonathan Oman started the scoring with a goal from Adam Day. Wesley Costa scored the second on a double assist from Day and Oman. Day scored the third goal on a penalty kick after Tom Hubbard was taken down in box. Day scored the next goal on a 22-yard bomb on an assist from Hubbard. Paulo Kubis assisted on Day’s third goal to make the score 5-0, and Bello Illiassou scored USAO’s final goal on an assist from Pinder Nijjar. Freshman goalkeeper Shane Flanagan played all 90 minutes to get the win. The women tied 0-0 after 110 minutes. Katie Swartzendruber got the shutout but numerous missed shots cost the senior goalkeeper the win. ### |
