  1. Treasurer’s report showed a balance of $485.84.  Eighteen people have paid dues for the year.

  1. Old Business:

Ø      Dr. Bain has committed to the date of March 24 for the Symposium on Teaching and Learning.  Dr. Todd recommends support of the professional development committee.

Ø      Reports on possible solutions to plagiarism were given by J. Bruce and by S. Huguenin.  Dr. Bruce reports five instances of plagiarism in World Thought III this trimester.  Dr. Huguenin said that federal regulations are going to require that we address the policy on plagiarism, and he discussed the possibility of a faculty committee to study the policy and to consider different types of plagiarism.

Ø      Joe Evans discussed policies on “incomplete” grades an brought copies of the policy from the state regents and of USAO catalog policy.  He discussed the possibilities of a different grade for a student who actually attended a class and attempted the work and for a student who never attended or attempted work.  New software program may allow more flexibility in grading incompletes.  A concern is for financial aid purposes, and faculty is encouraged to write a note on the grade sheet if a grade of “F” is due to non-attendance so financial aid can be notified.  We could also report the date the student stopped attending or the last date we have a record of their attendance.  Mr. Evans said that although grades of “AW” are requested in the fifth week, faculty members can assign an “AW” grade later than that date.

  1. New Business

Ø      Representatives from the Regents will be at Eduardo’s on Thursday, Nov. 3, for a meeting on service learning.

Ø      Discussion of turnitin.com by A. Todd.  He says that google does not archive and articles are deleted after a period of time.  Turnitin does archive.  The basic fee would be 75 cents per student, and $650.00 overall.  Move to support selection of turnitin.com (Bohannon/Long) received unanimous approval.

Ø      J. Knapp announced the BFA Show opening Sat from 3-5 and the Sr. Show.
