President
Nancy Osborn called the meeting to order at 11:07 am.
II.
Minutes
of the April 4, 2002 meeting were moved for approval. Motion carried.
III.
Treasurer
Roger Drummond reported a balance of $642.84.
IV.
Osborn
recognized and welcomed new faculty:
Jamie Pasley, Melvin Williams, and
Tina Harrison
V.
Committee
Reports—
No reports were made. Osborn indicated the membership of Association Committees would
be decided on and announced at the next meeting. She solicited volunteers for chairs and membership.
VI.
Ad
Hoc Committee Reports—
No reports were made. It was emphasized that the newly formed Academic Dishonesty
Committee ( Long, Bruce, Magrath, Shafer, Webb) should begin to function
immediately.
VII.
Regents
Report -- Available on the Web.
Next meeting of the Regents is September 10, 2002,
1-3 pm.
Following faculty encouragement, Ingrid Shafer,
agreed to attend the meeting to inform the Regents about the Outstanding Graduate Award she received from the Department of Human
Relations of the University of Oklahoma.

A.

B.
Shafer
reported that feedback has not been received from the Vice-President concerning
the proposal for prayer during
commencement. She will follow-up on the
matter.
IX.
New
Business —
A.
Randy
Talley reported on several accomplishments and events associated with
the University:
1.
Thursday,
September 6, 2002 will begin the second season of The Davis
Waldorf Performing Arts
Series. All were encouraged to
participate.
2.
Steve
Weber was awarded a stipend from ASCAP in recognition of his
writings.
3.
Since
July 1, 2002, several large gifts have been received by the
University Foundation
including , among others, those for the Waldorf
Series, Deaf Education,
several pieces of art work, and for public
relations.
4.
Francis
Davis will be inducted into the Higher Education Hall of Fame
October 8, 2002.
B.
It
was noted that the deadline to apply for participation in the Regional
Universities Research Day presentations is September
6, 2002. Individual and group
undergraduate research is targeted. Faculty
are to spread the word.
C.
Osborn
requested that faculty accomplishments over the summer be forwarded to
her so they can be reported
to the Regents at the September 10, 2002
1:00 pm
meeting.
D.
Drummond
will send cards of sympathy to faculty and staff who have had a
death in the family. There was discussion concerning whether to
purchase trees
or bricks in honor of the
these families and the deceased. The
matter was not
decided. K. Harrison will consult past minutes and
report on which was decided
on to be purchased in such
cases.
E.
As
a result of a question concerning the availability of guidelines for receiving
varied funds from the list
provided at the Fall Convocation, it was decided that
President Osborn will
contact Dr. Bernard to find out about
the dissemination of
these guidelines. All
interested faculty were encouraged to apply for these funds.

Announcements

A.
Faculty
teaching Freshmen Seminar classes will meet September 5, 2002.
B.
Faculty
teaching IDS classes will meet September 12, 2002.
C.
Remember
the Art Show September 7, 6-9 pm.
D.
Dr.
D. Hanson will present a program concerning The Beetles and their influence
September 5, 4 pm in the Davis Hall Amphitheater.
